Prof. Shanmugam earned his Ph.D. in 2004 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, with a specialization in heterogeneous catalysis. The following year, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Bar-Ilan University, Israel, as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where he worked on the “Sonoelectrochemical synthesis of metal nanoparticles.” In late 2007, he moved to Waseda University as a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow, where he continued his research on “Catalysis for energy applications.” He began his academic career at DGIST in 2011 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Tenured Full Professor in 2019. To date, Prof. Shanmugam has published 170 peer-reviewed papers, holds an H-index of 63, has been granted 5 Indian patents, and has filed 20 patents in Korea. His scientific achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the JSPS Fellowship from Japan, the Samuel and Helene Soref Young Scientist Award from Bar-Ilan University, and the Prof. Langmuir Prize for Best Thesis from IIT Madras.
